Psychotherapists / Counsellors

Psychotherapists and counsellors hold a master’s degree in psychology or counselling, and are trained to assess (but not diagnose) and treat impaired cognitive, emotional, or behavioural functioning by psychotherapeutic means, delivered through a strong therapeutic relationship. Psychotherapists typically focus on working with clients for a longer-term and draw from insight into emotional challenges and difficulties. Counsellors are generally more wellness-oriented and treat mental health issues that are less severe and shorter in duration than those requiring psychotherapeutic interventions.
