Samantha DeLenardo is the President and Co-Founder of the Student-Athlete Mental Health Initiative (SAMHI), a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to protecting and promoting mental health in Canada's university sport population. Samantha completed a Master’s degree in Health Communication at the University of Ottawa, where she also competed for five years on the women’s varsity hockey team. Her academic work explored the function of stigma within a competitive athletic setting. Samantha is a family member of a person with lived experience with a mental illness and has been touched by the many people who’ve come forward to share their personal stories since the foundation of SAMHI. Samantha volunteers her time for SAMHI, while working full-time at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Canada’s largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital.
